Acupuncture is a part of ancient traditional medicine that’s purpose is to return the flow of energy and blood back to normal and to reinstate optimal muscle and organ function. This will, in turn, restore function to the affected area and the body will begin to heal itself. There are 12 major energy pathways called meridians located throughout the human body. These pathways can become blocked, misdirected, or other derangement which results in pain, dysfunction, and/or ill health. Acupuncturists stimulates these acupoints to help restore the normal balance and flow among these pathways so the body can work in repairing itself and maintain its own health.

Acupuncture needles are compact, adaptable, and very thin. Most people barely feel anything when they are inserted and, at most, a slight pinch. However, little pressure is a desired response. Some therapeutic effects of acupuncture may include slight cramping, bloating, tingling, or electric sensation traveling along a meridian. If you feel any discomfort, let Dr. Chang know, and he can adjust treatment.

One of the significant advantages of acupuncture is that it is very safe. Other than an occasional bruise, there are no side effects.

It is best to wear comfortable, loose clothing. If we are working on the lower body, wear or bring shorts. We can also provide you with a disposable robe. If we are working on the shoulder, neck, or mid-back area, wear a tank top with access to the site that hurts.

Drink plenty of fluids and take it easy.  Avoid any strenuous activities or alcohol following your acupuncture sessions.

Dr. Chang can provide timelines following your initial consultation. Often, you will feel improvement from the very first session. We can see dramatic improvement for more minor, non-chronic injuries or challenges within 4-6 sessions. For more major or chronic injuries or disorders, we ballpark around 10-12 sessions. For long-term chronic issues, it could take up to 25 sessions to see a significant resolution of your symptoms.

Never! Every needle is a single-use, sterile needle. You receive new needles opened at the time of treatment. Once it is used, it is appropriately thrown out.
